Our Mission
Ruby Mae House (RMH) mission is to nourish hope and restore dignity by providing unhoused and displaced youth ages 16-24, with access to nutritious food and essential resources. As a community food pantry serving Washington, DC, we meet youth where they are; on the streets, in shelter or transitional housing: brining food, care and connection directly to them. We are committed to honoring all the intersecting identities of our youth and creating a safe, inclusive, and empowering space that supports their journey toward stability, healing and opportunity.
Our History
Founded in 2021, Ruby Mae House's is a nonprofit organization supporting youth without a home from ages 16-24 years. Ruby Mae house's name comes from the founder's Dr. Tina Arrington's grandmother Ruby Frances Wiseman and her great Aunt Lillie Mae Ward, who both cared for various unhoused youth in the community for decades. To continue the kindness of these two women, Ruby Mae House was formed by Dr. Tina Arrington, LPC a licensed therapist and educator partnered with G. Marie Desselle, RN and Chris Vera, Program Analyst.
At the heart of our work is a deep belief in the resilience, worth and potential of every young person. We are committed to showing up with compassion, dignity and consistency, meeting youth where they and delivering not just essentials, but also hope and connection. We honor and affirm all the intersecting identities of the youth we serve, creating inclusive spaces where every individuals feels seen, respected and valued. Our work is rooted in trust, equity and the unwavering belief that everyone deserves to be nourished in the body mind and spirt.
