Our Mission
Ruby Mae House (RMH) mission is to ensure every unhoused and displaced youth in Washington, DC are able to maintain their dignity by receiving supportive counseling and resources to sustain their well-being from compassionate people who honor all of their intersecting identities. At Ruby Mae House, we are dedicated to providing essential resources and emotional support to marginalized youth. We also believe in educating our youth and preparing them for post-secondary opportunities. We aspire for all youth to thrive.
Our History
Founded in 2021, Ruby Mae House's is a nonprofit organization supporting youth without a home from ages 16-24 years. Ruby Mae house's name comes from the founder's Dr. Tina Arrington's grandmother Ruby Frances Wiseman and her great Aunt Lilie Mae Ward, who both cared for various unhoused youth in the community for decades. To continue the kindness of these two women, Ruby Mae House was formed by Dr. Tina Arrington, LPC a licensed therapist and educator partnered with G. Marie Desselle, RN and Chris Vera, Program Analyst.
RMH provides safe and authentic counseling and resources for youth to thrive regardless of race, ethnicity, sex, or gender. Supported by a group of volunteers who recognized the need for a holistic environment for youth, our goal is to provide individualized support for all coupled with referrals to ensure self-sufficiency in the Nation's Capital. Mental health is a top priority at RMH, and individuals have access to these resources to achieve optimal well-being.
